Meeting Notes - Aug 4

We welcomed Wade’s two knees to their first Kiwanis meeting today. Wade was back in time for the mass signing of Terrific Kids Certificates; Barbara gave an overview of the program, describing how it effectively targets kids that get little support otherwise. Excellent work! Dale is back from a Katrina Relief mission with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. She said something about doing sheetrock work. I tried to grab her after the meeting to see if she could fix the hole in my bath ceiling…. but she eluded me. <sigh>

Our speaker today was Roylee Duvall of Through This Lense , a gallery of fine art photography in downtown Durham. Roylee spoke about the growth and excitement of Art as a business within Durham, and then about the global acceptance of photography as a serious art form. Several members testified that Roylee is an excellent teacher as well; he certainly gave an entertaining and informative talk today! He encouraged us to stop by the gallery sometime - it’s on Chapel Hill Street, a few doors East of Foster.

Barbara has arranged Michael Bacon to speak next week. Michael is promoting a food co-op in Durham Downtown Park that will be similar to Weaver Street Market in Carrboro. It sounds like a great project; somebody take notes for me as I’ll be at the beach next week!
